Moving Dirt

R.G. LeTourneau was a successful Texas businessman known especially for his development of earthmoving machinery. His company used to make a road scraper that was referred to as the Model G. A customer wanted to know what the letter G stood for. His quick reply: “The G stands for gossip because like a talebearer, this machine moves a lot of dirt and moves it fast!”

It’s easy to get caught up in talking about other people or sharing gossip that is often passed on as a prayer request. Some people, perhaps out of their own hurt, seem to love sharing dirt on others. Unkind speech, gossip, backbiting and slander are all activities that tear down and wound.

We are encouraged to contribute to the welfare of others and to not take away from them. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29)

Take a moment today to build up someone who needs encouragement. Both of you will be better off because of it.
