What We Think About

I am re-thinking the value of technology these days. Specifically, I’m not sure what to do about social media. I know it’s a complex topic. Not all the evidence is in, but it seems that social media is used more often to increase problems and divisions in society rather than develop positive connections between people.
There is concern about young people being targeted and bullied online. Various news and social media apps are polarizing political positions without any respect for kindness and decency. Studies show that all this daily time spent online is actually changing our brain and the way we think. What’s the effect of all this on our souls?
I need to hear and reflect on the words of the Psalmist about where to put my thoughts:
Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do. (Psalm 1:1-3, NLT)
My goal for this week is simple: more time to meditate on the law of the Lord and less time online.
