Don't Throw It Away

A waiter in Geneva was asked to check out a flooding toilet in the men’s room. No waiter likes this kind of task, but he was surprised to find that the source of the problem was a wad of cut-up €500 bills. Someone had tried to flush almost 100,000 Euros down the toilet. A nearby bank and two other restaurants reported the same problem. It’s resulted in high plumbing charges and a lingering mystery.
Why would someone throw that kind of money away? Investigators are being quiet about the matter, although they now know the source of the money and have found the individual responsible for destroying the cash. It’s still unclear why he was trying to get rid of money, but tax evasion now seems to be the main theory. Local residents say it’s a shame that the money didn’t go to help others in need.
Not many people would do something so foolish with their money. We simply view it as too valuable. However, we do often waste another valuable commodity: our time.
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT)
It’s hard to put a price on what time is worth to each one of us, but one thing is for sure: none of us can really afford to waste it. This doesn’t mean we have to work and be active every moment of the day. It means we need to move through life with purpose and great intention – otherwise, we are just flushing our time down the toilet.
